How to do more of what you love

life purpose, how to be happy,

What did you used to do in the past that you loved but don’t bother to find the time for these days?

I asked myself this question and realised I missed singing in a choir. So I did an online search, found a local one and joined up and, do you know what? It’s transformed my Monday evenings!

It makes me feel so HAPPY! Like, I-could-burst-kinda-happy. Why?

(Come on, you don’t expect that I hadn’t analysed the shit out of this, do you?)

You know I’m all about living in line with our own personal values? Well, apart from singing in a choir being immense fun, it meets a couple of my own personal values (namely “social spiritual experiences” and “varied learning”).

Heck, I get to be around and interact with people without having to do all those awkward not-sure-what-to-say-next-networking-style introductions!

And I get to learn something new that’s just enough of a challenge without me getting mad at it.

And obviously I get to do something I enjoy and am good at, I get to hear the beautiful result of many voices together in harmony, I get to be a part of something bigger than me – we even do public performances – and, when I’m doing this, I’m focused entirely on it and nothing else, so it’s a kind of meditation which helps to clear my head.

What a multiple-whammy!

If you’re feeling unfulfilled in your life, what one small thing could you do that’ll bring more happiness? Not sure? Try answering these questions:

What did you used to do in the past that you loved but don’t bother to find the time for these days? And what will you do about introducing it back into your life?

If you’re struggling with this, try meetup.com. It’s a free website where you can put in your location and interests and it suggests groups of people who are into the same stuff as you. Poetry, rock-climbing, philosophy, sewing, cycling, speaking Japanese, dog walking… If there’s a group near you, it’ll suggest it. And if there isn’t already a group, you can create one. (You can thank me later.)

Don’t waste another minute making excuses for why your life isn’t how you want it. Whether you want to believe it or not, you are in charge of your own life. If you’re bored or uninspired, please do something about it, the benefits to you (and those around you when you’re happier!) are huge.

Already got a bunch of fun hobbies but just not loving your work? You’re in the right place as it’s what I’m all about: helping people to find out what will fulfil them and go do it for a living.

I have a system that takes my clients from, “I’m not really sure what I’m supposed to be doing with my life but I don’t think this is it!” to “I’m absolutely clear on my life purpose and know how to get started!” Go here to find about it.
